Sim Redmond Band
@ Commons Pavilion, Ithaca, NY (6/22/06)

Good shows that are completely free are hard to come by, but every once in awhile you find that “diamond in the rough’ so to say. ITown Records artist, the Sim Redmond Band, turned out to be that diamond in the rough. The Sim Redmond Band, Ithaca natives, performed in downtown Ithaca at the Commons Pavilion. (The Commons is a little shopping center right in the heart of downtown Ithaca.)
Upon first entering the commons, there were throngs of people just milling about, listening to the opening band. It was a real family event with little children running around everywhere, and face-painting being offered. There were lots of people sitting on the ground right in front of the pavilion. It was a very free-spirited ambiance although the opening band wasn’t that great.
And then Sim Redmond took the stage. They played an amazing set. They started the show off with an African-inspired drum beat, just a bongo drum and the drum set. SRB has an earthy world-inspired sound that makes you want to groove and makes for feet-stomping good fun. As soon as Sim got going, there was a gigantic dance “pit” (although it really wasn’t a pit, more like a mass of bodies dancing).
Although it was an 80degree+, stifling hot day, the concert-goers were in good spirits, even as rain started to lightly sprinkle down. It was hard not to have a smile on your face, grooving to the music especially. Sim Redmond Band has such an earthy, honest feel that people can’t resist flocking to their shows! I promise you’ll have a good time grooving to Sim.
