YRL the FURY'S TOP 10 CDs of 2005:
#10
Elephant Eyelash
the only problem i had with why? before this cd was that he could be a little annoying sometimes. he's on this list because he's eradicated all elements of annoyingness on this cd and polished up his overbearing weirdness to make this a very enjoyable album.
#9
Talk Amongst the Trees
if you want to go on a journey, this is the cd to do it with. it creates its own experimental ambient world, and once you're in it it's hard to get out. you should only listen to this cd on dark and lonely nights.
#8
The Campfire Headphase
who says this aint good electronica? they're whack! here boards of canada take their sound in a new, more experimental direction and it's not a bad one. really. these guys are talented enough to change up their sound.
#7
One Way It's Every Way
seperating themselves from their first release two years ago, they really made an outstanding effort here. by far the best electronica/rock combo cd of the year; catchy hooks, beautiful melodies, very nice sound overall.
#6
Dignity or Shame
arriving late on my shelves, i've been obsessed with this cd for the last couple days. this is alt-country at its finest and can almost be lined up with wilco's yankee hotel foxtrot. i'm convinced almost anyone can like this cd.
#5
Illinois
topping many best of lists, this album is what everybody says it is: really great. so why it didn't top mine? too similar to michigan, but otherwise superb. if you havn't heard either, then it's time to give sufjan a try.
#4
Under an Hour
my favorite band from last year decided to go concept album for modern dance this time around, proving once again that they are not your ordinary rock band. these three tracks in 60 minutes are just mindblowing.
#3
Broken Social Scene
didn't think they had it in them to match you forgot it in people, but oh did bss proved me wrong. here they show us how much they love making music together, and it's magnificent.
#2
Feels
more and more listenable with every album they release, they energetically reach for beauty, psychedelia and fun with feels and they grasp them all brilliantly. see them in concert to fully experience what they've accomplished.
#1
Swing Swing
coming out of nowhere from norweigh, simply put these suckers made one of the best and most eclectic indie rock albums i've heard in a long while. oh yeah, and they sing simple lyrics in english! <3
